On September 13 and 14, 2025, La Tulipe was featured as part of the European Heritage Days program in Geneva through a guided architectural cycling tour entitled “Raw, Brutal, Brutalist.”
Organized by the Atelier Interdisciplinaire de Recherche (AIR) and guided by Mélanie Borès and Yan Schubert, the tour explored several iconic examples of brutalist architecture in Geneva built between the 1950s and 1970s.
The itinerary connected a variety of landmark buildings — academic, industrial, religious, and administrative — including La Tulipe, recognized for its expressive and sculptural architectural design.
Designed between 1966 and 1972 by architect Jack Vicajee Bertoli, the building of the Fondation pour Recherches Médicales has been listed as part of Geneva’s heritage since October 5, 2015. Its brutalist architecture, combining prestressed concrete, monumental volumes, and a suspended glass façade, continues to attract architects, heritage enthusiasts, and the wider public.
The European Heritage Days are Europe’s largest participatory cultural event and aim to introduce visitors to historic places, architecture, and stories that are often overlooked. The 2025 Geneva edition, centered around the theme “Stories of Architecture,” featured more than 30 events throughout the city.
The Fondation pour Recherches Médicales is delighted to see La Tulipe included in this heritage itinerary, highlighting the architectural and cultural significance of the building within Geneva’s urban landscape.
